When you got the insurance, they usually give you a book that tells exactly what procedure are covered and under what circumstances. If you don’t have it, they probably have the info on their web site. Or you can contact them and get a copy. Most of these places have many different plans some cover more stuff than others, so make sure you get the correct info for your plan.
I’m thinking the weight loss surgery falls under elective surgery (like boob jobs, plastic surgery, etc) and maybe that is why they don’t cover it. However, if you can get your doctor to officially state something like “in my proffessional opinion, if she doesn’t have this surgery, her life is in immediate danger”; they might have to cover it. Its worth a try.
You would probably need a doctors help with that as you would need to prove you are completely unable to lose the weight yourself. There are very, very few people that are totally unable to lose the weight themselves. It’s not likely you’d get a doctors support because anything you can do yourself is far safer than surgery.
